GALLATIN NAMED NICEST PLACE IN AMERICA AND CELEBRATES WITH JOHN BERRY APPEARANCE

It’s official – Gallatin has been named the “Nicest Place in America” by Reader’s Digest.

The magazine, which has 3 million subscribers, made the announcement on its website that the city had won the nationwide search Friday.

“I could not be happier or prouder,” said Mayor Paige Brown, who nominated Gallatin in the contest earlier this year. “From the very beginning, I thought our city really embodied the spirit that Reader’s Digest was looking for.

“We are a very diverse community in so many ways, yet we have a special culture and we care about one another, we support one another and we take care of each other. Imagine if more people did that.”

The November issue of the magazine, which features Brown, Police Chief Don Bandy and First Baptist Church Pastor Derrick Jackson on the cover, is expected to start being delivered to subscribers this weekend and available to purchase at newsstands later this month.

A program to celebrate the announcement will be held Wednesday, Oct. 11 at 9 a.m. in front of city hall. The event is expected to include remarks from Reader’s Digest Editor-in-Chief Bruce Kelley, local officials and a performance by local Grammy winning country music artist John Berry.

Gallatin was named as one of the top 10 finalists in the Nicest Place in America search in June out of 300 nominations from 43 states. The city received the most votes in an online poll for the contest the following month.

The other finalist locations were Rock Hall, Md.; Pflugerville High School in Texas; Oriole Park in Baltimore, Md.; Hayesville, N.C.; KidsCycle: NS in Shorewood, Wis.; Providence, R.I.; South Whidbey Island in Puget Sound, Wash.; The Doak’s House in Waterford, Ohio; and Franklin, Neb.

“I hope that we can set an example for other communities moving forward and remain one of the truly nicest places in America,” Brown said. “Everybody has the capacity to show some acts of kindness every day and it doesn’t take a huge effort. You can change somebody’s day with a smile or a kind word or a generous gesture, even if it’s just opening a door. That makes a difference in people’s lives.”

New Tune Encourages Americans to Donate to Storm Victims Via Fund Setup Through Samaritan’s Purse

Nashville, Tenn. (September 18, 2017) — Various artists from the worlds of country, rock, blues, bluegrass and gospel are all banding together to aid victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. A few weeks ago, after the landfall of Hurricane Harvey in Houston, country singer John Berry was scheduled for a writing appointment in Nashville with award-winning songwriter Chuck Jones. The two went into the session with no intentions but walked away with the newly-penned song, “All Come Together.”

“Chuck and I got together to write and after seeing the destruction on television came up with the idea for ‘All Come Together,'” says Berry. “Everybody feels like they want to help in some way. We just want to bring attention to the cause, and all come together and help. There are a lot of people who are going to need help for a long time. This isn’t a two-week fix. We hope people will donate to Samaritan’s Purse to help the cause. Here’s your challenge to help.”
After writing the song, Berry went to work asking friends to join in and help sing on the tune. He quickly recruited a slew of artists who were more than happy to donate their time and talents. “All Come Together” features vocals from Berry and Jones, John Oates (Hall & Oates), John Cowan (Doobie Brothers), Keb Mo, Heidi Newfield (Trick Pony),Dave Innis and Paul Gregg (Restless Heart), Casey James (American Idol), Collin Raye, Bryan White, Robin Berry, Mike Farris, and Darin & Brooke Aldridge. The recording process was documented on film to create a music video to accompany the song. Watch the official music video HERE (https://youtu.be/FlT8o4BGthg).
Berry adds, “I know that people in Texas and Florida will need help rebuilding their lives long after the two week news cycle. My hope is that through this song and video people will continue to be encouraged to reach out to those that have been affected by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma. Samaritan’s Purse gives people the opportunity to help by either volunteering their time or through financial giving. In a time when our country seems so divided, we have a unique opportunity to all come together and do our part to help our fellow Americans rebuild their lives.”
The song will be available for download via iTunes and Amazon in the next two weeks with 100% of the proceeds going to storm victims. In the meantime, the public is encouraged to donate to the cause by donating their time or by giving money directly to Samaritan’s Purse at the following links:
“We’re so grateful for these artists who have come alongside our Samaritan’s Purse teams to help Texans and Floridians recover from Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma,” notes Franklin Graham, president of Samaritan’s Purse. “God bless them for their generosity and hard work as they remind storm victims that there is still hope.”

The “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting Series” is a holy-spirit filled gathering of country music stars sharing their faith, some amazing songs and hilarious moments while touching the hearts of everyone in the room– and everyone who watches. It was named “Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting” because that’s what the “let-your-hair-down” style of worship was called back in the day. You went to Sunday morning all shined up, but Wednesday Night was for relaxing and celebrating the Lord Jesus. These moments are all captured in an old country Church setting. Past artists in attendance include: Ricky Skaggs, The Oak Ridge Boys, John Berry, Bill Anderson, Larry Black, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Barbara Fairchild, Gene Watson, The Isaacs, Jimmy Fortune, Teea Goans, The Martin Family Circus, Gordon Mote, Linda Davis, Rhonda Vincent and MANY MORE. They sing songs like “Victory In Jesus,” “Wings of a Dove,” “He Touched Me,” “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” and others you’re sure to recognize and sing along.
